Clerk to Mellor Parish Council

Mellor Parish Council is a dynamic and evolving Council eager to improve its performance and relationship with the Community it serves looking for a committed and enthusiastic individual to undertake the role of Parish Clerk and Responsible Finance Officer.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone wishing to work mainly from home, flexible hours and seeking a new vocation. Laptop and printer are provided.

The role calls for an average of 10 hours per week, although some weeks will be busier than others. The successful applicant must be available to attend evening meetings of the Council held on the first Thursday of the month and occasional additional meetings as required.

The Clerk will be totally responsible for ensuring that the instructions of the council in connection with its function as a local authority are carried out.

Experience in a local government environment or holding the Level 3 Certificate in Local Council Administration (CiLCA) would be an advantage but not essential as support and training will be offered in return for your commitment, interest & skills which we will enhance to hold these qualifications in return for a higher salary.

The Clerk pay scale is dependent upon qualifications and experience. Typically, this may mean the starting salary could be up to £15 per hour for an experienced qualified clerk.

The successful applicant should have a good level of education, with good communication and excellent interpersonal skills as well as knowledge of administration, taking minutes, basic accounting and working to deadlines.

This is a role for someone with excellent interpersonal skills who can both listen well and demonstrate self-confidence in handling difficult situations as an ambassador for the Parish Council. Candidates must be capable of working with Councillors, the public, a wide range of outside bodies; sometimes in challenging situations.

Knowledge of the area and an interest in parish activities is highly desirable.
