Site visit The property is a farmhouse in Thornley, in the AONB. The proposal is to raise the height of the garage roof, to allow for first floor accommodation. It is proposed to lift the apex of the roof by 1.5m and the eaves by 0.5m. An external stone staircase is also proposed. There would be minimal neighbouring impact due to its location. The main issue is the visual impact on the AONB. The location of the site is highly elevated, however the garage is set at a lower land level than the house. The garage is obscured by hedges and is not prominent from the bottom of the farm track and the height increase would not form a visually detrimental feature and in my opinion is acceptable.
