Site visit The property is an old farmhouse, with a converted barn to the side in a rural area, situated at the top of Longridge Fell. It is built in random stone with a slate pitched roof. It has a conservatory to the front elevation (approved in 1994). There are no neighbours close to the property. The proposal is to convert the existing garage and store into living accommodation, creating a large lounge (12m x 6m) and study. There will be some internal alterations to the 1st floor, including the insertion of roof lights and new windows. The issue to consider with this proposal is the changes to the appearance of the farmhouse and barn. The garage was an add-on it 1978, and therefore has been built in a style of the farmhouse. There is existing parking space to accommodate at least 10 cars. The windows and doors proposed in the existing garage are part in keeping with the existing, however there are fully glazed panels proposed in one corner of the lounge, which will form an incongruous feature to the design, which could detriment the appearance of the farm.
